THE SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD., a NAVRATNA PSU, has rewarding opportunities for young professionals for appointment as Assistant Manager. The SCI, India’s premier shipping company has a significant presence on the global maritime map. The SCI occupies the Numero Uno position with its large and diversified fleet, operating in nearly all segments of shipping viz. break-bulk services, container services, liquid and dry bulk services, offshore services and passenger services.

The company also mans and manages vessels on behalf of various government bodies. The SCI continues to grow through strategic alliances and new business opportunities. The SCI recorded a profit after tax of Rs.940.67 crores on a turnover of Rs.4564.49 crore for the Financial Year 2008-09.

Stream: Legal Professionals
Essential Qualifications: Degree in Law through a full time course of three years after graduation or five years after 12th Standard.
Aggregate Minimum of marks:
60% – UR
55% – SC
Experience: 3 years of practice either independently or as a member/advocate assistant in an established law firm or in the legal affairs department in a company preferably in maritime industry.
Age:
The upper age limit is 30 years as on 24/12/2009 (Candidates born before 24/12/1979 are not eligible to apply). The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC i.e. 35 years (Candidates born before 24/12/1974 are not eligible to apply).
Career Prospects, Emoluments & Posting:
Selected candidates shall be on probation for one year and placed in the scale of Rs.20,600-46,500. In addition to Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other Allowances / Perquisites subject to a maximum ceiling of 50% of basic pay shall be given. At present the gross monthly emolument works out to about Rs.40000/-. The officer shall also be entitled to Performance Related Pay, Gratuity and Superannuation benefits which will be as per Corporation rules.

The postings are in Mumbai. The selected candidates can be transferred to any location in India/ abroad. Candidates will have to make their own arrangements for accommodation.
Selection Process:
Short-listed candidates will be called for Personal Interviews at Mumbai. Candidates have to make their own arrangements for stay at Mumbai. SC candidates will be reimbursed 2nd class rail fare to and fro by the shortest route to the centre for Personal Interviews.

A candidate belonging to SC must produce an attested copy of certificate issued by Competent Authority in the prescribed format as prescribed by Government of India. If the caste certificate is in vernacular language, an English version of the same duly attested by a Gazetted officer or a person holding equivalent rank should be submitted.
General Information:
(a) The Company reserves the right to increase/decrease the number of vacancies or cancel the recruitment at any stage.
(b) Reservation & Relaxation will be allowed in accordance with the Government of India regulations for SC candidates.
(c) The Company reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standard etc. in order to restrict the number of candidates.
